Growing Your Ecommerce Team

For most small businesses, the starting point for an ecommerce team is an Ecommerce Manager, or Head of Ecommerce, with a broad range of responsibilities. This person is typically flying solo, or perhaps supported by an ecommerce assistant to do day-to-day site admin, and managing multiple agencies to deliver key skills.
The internal team needs to grow as the business scales, so where should an ecommerce manager focus? How much needs to be brought in-house vs. filled via external specialists?
