Is Responsive Design Enough for UX?

September 7, 2015

#EcomChat on Monday 7th September will discuss “Is responsive design enough for ecommerce’.

Responsive design is almost the default for web development nowadays, with fewer people building separate mobile sites, preferring to maintain one code base. We also know that customers shop across channels and devices and ecommerce teams need to find a way to make their brand work for all these touchpoints. So is responsive design enough to give people a great user experience? Or do web teams need to have a more nuanced approach to UX optimisation across devices?

We think this is an important topic, moving beyond the almost default ‘responsive is best’ view point to looking at optimal experience based on device capability.

As ever, there will be 3 conversation starter questions & anyone is welcome to join in using the #EcomChat hashtag on Twitter.

Here are the 3 questions.

  1. What are the limitations of responsive design?
  2. How can you deliver device specific experiences with a responsive site?
  3. How do you know what people want based on device?

Join us at 1pm UK time on Monday and do share this post either on Twitter or via email with anyone you think would be interested.

Thanks, Dan & James.

p.s. If you’re wondering “what’s this about?” there is a page explaining all just here.
